Jane Dewey is a theatre maker and arts administrator, and is the former (and inaugural) director of arts education for the Danville Schools. In 2021, Jane was honored with the Governor’s Award in the Arts for Arts Education. Jane believes that access to and involvement with the arts for people of all ages enriches lives and increases creative and critical thinking skills, allowing individuals and communities to better understand and communicate with one another.
In addition, Jane has taught and directed for schools and organizations including Centre College, the Governor’s Scholars Program, the Richmond Area Arts Council, SCAPA, and Berea College. She is currently working with Pioneer Playhouse’s award winning Voices Inside program.
Jane has been active in serving on several boards and commissions for arts and civic organizations and is a past board member of Kentuckians for the Arts, the Arts Center of the Bluegrass, the Arts Commission of Danville/Boyle County, and facilitator of the Kentucky Coalition for Arts Education. Currently she serves as a co-chair of the Danville Sister Cities Commission, and as Secretary of Danville’s Martin Luther King Jr. event steering committee. Her experience in arts education and with organizations includes teaching, directing, curriculum writing, assessment, facilities, event and production management, arts advocacy, fundraising, budgeting and grant writing. Jane enjoys working with individual artists and teachers on creating arts education resources, curriculum writing, and arts events and planning, and with schools and organizations on how to strengthen their arts programming, strategic planning, and arts advocacy.
