Philis Alvic is an artist, weaver and writer. She is a charter member of the Kentucky Craft History and Education Association Board (KCHEA), is treasurer of Weave A Real Peace (WARP), and has served on many other boards. She is especially interested in structuring an organization so it can deliver its mission effectively. Through several international agencies she has served as a design and craft marketing consultant in more than a dozen countries on four continents.
Since graduating from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1964, she has exhibited her woven wall textiles in over 200 exhibitions. She regularly presents workshops and talks at academic conferences for educational institutions and for arts groups. More than 100 of her articles have been published in weaving, craft and art magazines and she is the author of “Weavers of the Southern Highlands” (University Press of Kentucky, 2003) and “Crafts of Armenia” (International Executive Service Corps, 2003).
