Katie Starbuck Mullen is the Director of Undergraduate Studies and a Lecturer for the Department of Arts Administration at the University of Kentucky. She has developed and teaches undergraduate and graduate coursework in marketing, branding, management and planning, technology, and emotional intelligence.
Katie has experience as an artist and arts administrator, with advancement experience at Lexington's arts council, LexArts, and the Speed Art Museum in Louisville, Ky. Prior to her experience in the nonprofit sector, Katie served as art director for boutique architecture, design, and art firm Pillar 3 Design Group.
Katie holds a BA in Psychology and an MA in Arts Administration and is currently a doctoral student in the Martin School of Public Policy and Administration. She graduated from the 2022-2023 UKY CELT Teaching Innovation Institute, is in the upcoming 2025-2026 Generative AI Teaching institute, and has deepened her understanding of the contemporary student experience through continued coursework at the University of Kentucky. She has published in the American Journal of Arts Administration and presented at multiple conferences, speaking on topics including internship management and mentorship, emotional intelligence, and the changing use of technology in the classroom.
