As a professional artist since 1968, O’Brien
has navigated through changing economic phases. She is passionate about helping
artists to enthusiastically develop their careers. Half of this is developing
creatively, half is cultivating the business of art. She can problem solve, help
artists move through creative blocks and advise on new directions based on a
wide range of art techniques and knowledge of materials. Skills learned as a
founding member and first treasurer of Boulder Arts and Crafts CO-OP, participant
in KAC Craft Marketing, Al Smith Fellowship Recipient and Platinum 10 Programs; numerous studio tours, exhibit
coordination, award winning booth design; and operating her own studio allows her
to share the many facets of the business.
In this regard she has experience with
marketing, product development, written materials (statements, grants, resumes,
and press kits), documentation, record keeping, gallery submissions, desk top
publishing (design of promotional materials such as brochures and catalogues
using Photoshop and Publisher) and mailings. She is proficient in the following
disciplines; drafting/drawing, painting (water media and oil), collage, mixing
media, framing, book making, graphic design, photography, Giclée printing,
fiber, beadwork, leatherwork, gourd work. She has made it a practice to
integrate and balance these two areas with lifestyle through teaching and
consulting.
